Looking For A Decent Affordable Gaming Laptop?

I’m looking for a decent affordable gaming laptop with a card thats equivilent to an Nvidia 8800gts or better. However, I would like to avoid Nvidia’s 8 series due to the overheating defect that ruined my last laptop.
I currently have my eye on one of the following two if anyone wants to share their experience/opinions on them.

However, if someone would like to recommend a slightly cheaper alternative I’d be glad to hear it. 4GB of ram isn’t necessary, likewise I could probably survive with less HDD space too (250 would be the minimum though).
The two main uses of the laptop would be for gaming and for working on my game development course (we are currently using both x360 and psp development tools).

Why Is Alienware So Expensive?

I’ve been looking at different manufacturers for a lightweight mid-range gaming notebook, and after playing around with the configuration tool @ alienware.com, I seem to be coming out about $800+ higher than the same parts from anyone else, like Asus, Sager, or even Dell (And doesn’t Dell own Alienware anyway?) Is there something I’m missing? Why would anyone pay such a premium for a laptop that looks goofy in front of anyone over the age of 23?

Choosing The Best Value/performance Notebook?

Having just entered college, and seeing that my PC is now 4 years old, im saving my cash for a notebook. The problem of course is, which one to buy?
Im looking for something at around 14-15 inch, 4G Ram, 2.5 GHz Dual Core, decent video card, blu ray player (burner to if possible), and a decent battery life (4-5 hours)
Im planing on using it mostly for web surfing, video and foto editing, and less for gaming (though I can’t resist buying mass effect and possibly TOR)
Now I’ve been interested in the new Mac Book Pro that apple just announced this summer, but its a whopping 2700$ (I live in Canada) and has the same specs as a Sony Vaio for 1200$.
Now I do love the illuminated keyboard, and the awesome pad that comes with the new MacBP, but is it really worth another 1500$???
I’d appreciate any advise y’all can give on this dilemma of mine.
P.S. Can you run OS X on anything other than a mac?

So I’m looking to upgrade. Nothing immediate but my current laptop is four years old and it’s acting iffy. ofcourse the netbook doesn’t have as much ram or a dvd drive, and a fast processor like the notebook, but I don’t need that stuff, anyway.

Im trying to choose between a macbook and a dell notebook. Ive never used a mac but here they are great, I dont need this for business or work or creating apps or editing or gaming or anything. Just something to browse the internet with, can play and stream videos very fast and obviously runs wifi well.
